In partnership with four local universities and private colleges, the Institute offers academic support to graduate students who are working on their masters degrees in social work. The purpose of the Diversity Social Work Advancement Program (DSWAP) is to increase the number of licensed mental health professionals from immigrant, refugee, and minority communities and to expand the accessibility of culturally competent mental health services. Students enrolled in DSWAP are referred for one-to-one tutorials at the Institute to improve their writing skills.
In order to apply, an applicant must:
- Be enrolled in a Masters of Social Work program at the University of Minnesota, University of St. Thomas, St. Catherine’s University, or Augsburg College.
- Apply to DSWAP by contacting True Thao for a field placement interview.
This program is funded by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, and is coordinated by The Family Partnership. For more information, please visit The Family Partnership’s DSWAP page or contact Merle Greene at 651-647-0191 x 317.
